Lunch service begins at the Boathouse as Charleston welcomes warm weather

The Boathouse at Breach Inlet will begin offering a seasonal lunch menu on Tuesday, March 16th. This waterfront location was voted best Isle of Palms Restaurant in the Charleston City Paper's 2010 Best of Awards and is the ideal location for ocean views, outdoor seating and local seafood. "The Boathouse at Breach Inlet is the perfect dining location for lunch and dinner with its panoramic views of the inlet, the Ravenel Bridge and downtown Charleston" says General Manager Lee Cohen. "We serve the freshest, local seafood and shellfish in all of Charleston." The Boathouse at Breach Inlet is a Platinum Member of the Sustainable Seafood Initiative, striving to provide local sustainable seafood on the menu whenever possible.

The lunch menu appetizer selection focuses largely on fresh seafood such as calamari and oysters. A variety of salads are also available with the option to add grilled chicken or seasonal grilled fish, fried shrimp or fried oysters. The new lunch menu also offers a large sandwich selection including a fried green tomato BLT with chipotle aioli and blackened fish sandwich.

Items range from $7 to $13 and a kids menu is available. Lunch service will be offered Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 2 pm. The Boathouse at Breach Inlet offers dinner nightly and a brunch menu on Sundays. Reservations can be made at The Boathouse by calling (843) 886-8000.

Cool breezes. Cold drinks. Warm, summer weather. Could anything be finer?

The Isle of Palms' favorite summer hangout has officially opened for the season. The Crow Bar at The Boathouse Breach Inlet is now open, beginning at 4:30 daily. From the elevated deck of the Crow Bar you can enjoy 360 degree sunset views of the ocean with cold beers and refreshing cocktails. An appetizer and raw bar menu is also available.

The Boathouse has two slips for boat docking right in front of the restaurant, and is the perfect place to relax after a long morning of fishing or a long week at work. With views like this, what are you waiting for? Head over to Breach Inlet this weekend!

Boathouse at Breach Inlet has received its second honor this year from the Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SSI). In addition to being named "Partner of the Year" for 2007, the restaurant is now one of only three Platinum Partners of SSI.

The Boathouse was named SSI's partner of the year for its dedication to the promotion of SSI through educational dinners and special events. Additionally, the restaurant submitted its menu for review by SSI. The menu review takes into account all seafood served at the restaurant, rating it on a scale of 0 (unsustainable) to 5 (sustainable) to determine the restaurant's commitment to providing its customers sustainable products. The Boathouse scored a 4/5, which qualified the restaurant for Platinum Partner status.

Congratulations to Executive Chef Charles Arena and the staff of the Boathouse at Breach Inlet! In the past year, Chef Arena and his staff demonstrated their dedication to SSI by participating in two sustainable seafood dinners, cooking demonstrations at the South Carolina Aquarium and the Southeast Wildlife Exposition, cooking competition at the Sustainable Seafood Festival, "Revealing the Deep" film premiere and dinner as well as a menu assessment process.

"It's a great initiative, and whether as chefs or consumers or purchasers, we all need to get involved in order to keep fish around for future generations" says Arena.

Chef Arena is one of the first chefs to participate in the new menu assessment process-chefs submit their menu for a detailed assessment of seafood sustainability. Megan Westmeyer, Program Coordinator for SSI said, "Though the menu assessment is still in progress, it appears that The Boathouse at Breach Inlet will be awarded Platinum Partner status in early 2008. We're very thankful to Chef Arena and the other Sustainable Seafood Partners that made 2007 such a success."

The Sustainable Seafood Initiative was created in 2002 by the South Carolina Aquarium, South Carolina Seafood Alliance, Coastal Conservation League, Johnson and Wales University and the University of South Carolina with the goal of promoting the conservation of fishery resources and the use of locally and domestically caught seafood in restaurants. Since its inception, the program has grown to include 45 restaurant partners, two community partners and Earth Fare.

Each year, the SSI honors the commitment of their partners by naming one of them Partner of the Year. The recipient is determined by a points-based system, with points awarded for event participation, hosted dinners, festival participation and in-restaurant promotion of SSI. Previous winners include The Sea Island Grill at Wild Dunes (2005) and The Restaurant at Middleton Place  (2006).
